hey, so I was just admitted to the college of letters and sciences at cal for fall 2010. on the application I said my major would be media studies, but I know that the major is capped, so it's probably pretty competitive to be accepted into the major once I arrive. anyone know just how competitive?
I'm trying to plan my fall schedule and I'm thinking I should have a backup major like English in case I don't get in to Media Studies. My GPA overall is like a 3.6 but my major gpa (for media studies) is practically a 4.0 (got only 1 B).
does everyone just pretty much get into the major they want, being admitted and all?

is no one a media studies major here?

This question may be better answered in the UC Berkeley forum. I’ll try my best based on what I know about other majors.

In most cases, as long as you meet the minimum requirements, you can declare. I see for Media Studies, Cal requires a 3.2 in three of the four pre-reqs. I believe if you attain this, you will be admitted. That is how I understand it works for declaring Econ (another capped major).
