I checked out the UVA website and found the media studies major very interesting. Does anyone one know about the program or has anyone attended it? If so, what experiences did you have?

I’m not in the program but I know people who are in it, and it sounds pretty cool. I really don’t know much about it except that you have to apply for it at the end of your 2nd year. Also, a lot of people have this misconception that its like film studies when its more related to journalism (at least that is what I have heard from people). That’s about the extent of my knowledge…

It’s a very, very good program

so you cant take it freshman year?

From what I hear, it’s a competitive program (i.e. chances of rejection are high).

Like with many specialised programmes, you try to build up an impressive portfolio of courses, outside work, etc. in order to make for a good application. So you can take the appropriate courses in anticipation of applying to the program.
