Medical Alert: Stay away from "Molly"

There has been a resurrection in the use of the Club Drug Ecstasy (which has been renamed "Molly" - so many students may not be aware of what it is) and it is being used in increasing frequency on college campuses in the Northeast and at music/concert events with at least several deaths recently reported due to its use. It is taken in powder form or as a pill or capsule. It is a form of methamphetamine ("speed") which acutely causes increased energy, euphoria, and empathy.

It is an extremely dangerous drug and deaths can occur from high blood pressure, extremely high body temperature, seizures, water intoxication, and a number of other medical complications. There is not always a relationship with the amount ingested and these potential lethal effects (a first dose can kill someone who might be particularly sensitive to it).

My recommendation for students: "Do Not Take This Drug". It is not worth the risks.

My recommendation for Parents: "Make your children aware of the above".
