Is Medical Board of California Approved Schools List Welcome to the Medical Board of California - Medical Schools Recognized by the Medical Board of California a good and reliable source to understand if a medical school is good, selective etc. or not?

Looked at the list–and I would say no, it’s not a good resource for American students who are planning to study medicine overseas.

Most of the schools on the list are not recognized by the US Dept of Education (meaning that you cannot get Stafford loans to attend).

Also there is no indication of whether each school teaches a standardized US medical curriculum or the pass rate for its students who attempt the USMLE.

To me those 3 pieces of information are crucial when making a decision on what overseas program to attend.

But I am an international student who wants to study in Turkey.

If your intention is to eventually practice medicine in the US, I’d still say that the list is not of any actual value since it doesn’t include information about curriculum standards and USMLE pass rate. Both are critical for international students who want to get a US medical residency.

If you’re not planning on practicing in the US, then why are you even worrying about what the CA Medical Board says?

I only want to find a good medical school in Turkey. I care about the list because Medical Board of California most probably does not roll a dice and make this list. Being on this list is a good sign for a Med School. I want to know if this list is prepared seriously with professional research or not.

I went and looked more fully thru the site.

There was no professional research involved. Basically, if a school asked to placed on the list and as not been internationally disavowed as a diploma mill, then it was placed on the list.

There is no guarantee made that any school on the list meets minimal professional standards.
