Where do your students go for their medical care? Is the OU Health Center the primary location for most out of state students?
My insurance company has an out of state network and lists Shelly Rae Robbins, CPN (OU Health Center) as a potential provider. I will follow up with the health center to ensure that my son will be able to see any of their providers and be covered under our policy.
There are also many other doctors in Norman that participate in the network. I’ve already found the Norman urgent care clinics that accept our insurance.
Also wondering about mental health care. Has anyone used OU’s services or know of anyone who has? Are the students happy with their options for mental health care?
Most OU students start by going to Goddard (OU health service), but if there are no more appointments, they just look for doctors that work with their insurance and go from there. I use the Norman clinic, but others might be different. It is common for Goddard to refer out, usually to other Norman area facilities, but for intractable issues (aka those which basically require a medical withdrawal), the student may need to go to OKC.
Long term serious mental health is best handled by a private psychiatrist. Goddard is ok for occasional problems, but if your child has something like bipolar, severe depression, etc, Goddard is often ill equipped to handle something like that. If you’d like to know my sources for this, just pm me.
