Medical Internships, Research, or Shadowing a Doctor

How can I do either on of the mentioned items. Do I just email doctors around where I live? If i should email, should I email those in private practice or those in a legitimate hospital?

I know this thread is old, but I just wanted to offer some advice:

From what I’ve heard, finding Medical Internships or Research (without personal affiliations) is relatively difficult for a high school student-- that is, unless you don’t mind washing beakers/ doing other mundane tasks.

If you’re really interested in medicine, I would recommend focusing on doctor shadowing. If you live close to a university affiliated hospital that would probably be your best bet (since they always have med students, residents, & fellows around). Regardless, just call the volunteer office of any hospitals in your area and ask if they have any shadowing opportunities available for high school students.

This is what I did in the Spring, and I’m spending this summer shadowing some neurologists.

I really hope this helps!
