Medical & Pharmacy School

Is there any main difference between medical and pharmacy school? They are similar if you want to major in chemistry or biology. I do think that both are very popular and there’s intense competition to get in.

Well, the biggest difference would be at the end of pharmacy school you become a pharmacist, whereas at the end of medical school you become a physician. Completely different job responsibilities, work settings, career trajectories and salaries.

If you are talking about the educational curriculum in school - pharmacy, of course, focuses more on the chemistry and mechanisms of medicines. Medical school focuses more on the diagnosis and treatment of medical illnesses. MD and DO graduates also need to do at least a 3-year residency in order to be licensed, whereas pharmacy graduates don’t (but do have the option to complete a 2-year residency if they want to).

I’m going to move your question to the medical school forum because this forum mostly deals with non-professional grad schools, and you’ll probably get a better answer there.
