Medical Physics or Marine Science + Physics double major?

Hello!

I currently have 3 days before being done with my applications and I’m in quite a bad spot, that is I don’t exactly know what to major in.

My interest is mostly in physics but I’m also interested in biology and how physics overlaps with it. In this respect medical physics would work. I’m also interested in marine science because I find the ocean to be intriguing to learn about, especially considering it’s huge.

What should I do in this case?

Medical physics is arguably better in terms of job prospects and pay. It is also physics applied to biology which would fit my needs. The problem is that I’m not sure I would like clinical work, especially with people with cancer or other problems. Medical physics is a protected title in my country, so going physics undergrad then medical physics is not possible.

Physics with Marine science is also good as it’s double major. Physics would provide me with a lot of vital knowledge in mathematics and computers which can be directly applied to Marine science. Marine science is probably a growing field because of the problems with the oceans. Because of my strong interest in physics, I can also drop marine science and go with full force on physics if I find marine science to be boring.

Any advice would be helpful.

I mostly wanna work in the field because I’m more of a nature person. I have always wanted to learn more about the ocean but I also want good job prospects and pay. Is marine science + physics better than medical physics then? I’m not sure I would be able to handle a double major. Physics alone is difficult and time consuming, marine science is probably much easier.

There isn’t anything specific in marine science that I like, other than the fact that I simply think it’s beautiful and that a job connected to it would be nice. I’m not sure this is a good reason to pursue a marine science program, seems like a very vague reason to study it, to simply look at the ocean and understand it.

I have always had a strong interest in physics but also been in love with the ocean. Would the double major be good?

Anyone?

You’re barely ever going to be dealing with patients directly in clinical medical physics. There is no money in marine science, you will make more as a fisherman.

Huh? where are you applying to in the middle of April??

IF you have already applied to colleges and been accepted, then tell us what colleges you are comparing so we can better help you.

But is getting a job in Marine Science easy? Medical physics has good prospects, how about marine science?

In order to secure a higher salaried position in either field requires advanced degrees. Marine science positions are available in the private and government sector. Research in the field or labs, teaching, policy, fish and wildlife, conservation agencies, etc. There are many positions available with an advanced degree.
