Medical School applicants with type 1 diabetes

As the father of a son with type 1 diabetes, I am curious as to how this will affect his chances of getting into medical school. He is a heading into his senior year and just took his MCAT June 20. Thanks.

I can’t see how that can affect your son’s admissions negatively. On the other hand, he can use it to put together the often asked and much dreaded “Overcoming adversity” essay on his secondary application. My son is struggling to put together that one as we speak :(

So long as your son meets the “technical standards” for admission to medical school, it shouldn’t impact his eligibility for admission.

I know D1 has one class mate who wears a insulin pump.

Sample technical standards from Mayo:

[Technical Standards - MD - Mayo Medical School - Mayo Clinic](Prerequisites and Requirements - M.D. Program - Mayo Clinic Alix School of Medicine - Mayo Clinic College of Medicine & Science)

^^ It should be easy. How my extended family looked down on me because a parental unit chose not to go to med school. :D

I would be more concerned with the june 20th MCAT than the T1D to be frank (unless he is not applying this cycle)
