Medical School

Do Cornellians get into the top Medical Schools (Harvard, Columbia, Washington), or is it nearly impossible?

I read something offof Harvard's med school website (can't find it right now for some reason... but I do remember reading it) that divided all of its med school students based on where they got their undergraduate degree.

Out of ~700 total med students, ~200 were from Harvard, and a lot of top schools had 30-60 students at Harvard med school.

Don't remember the exact number for Cornell but it was somewhere ~40.

Other schools that had around that number included other ivies, Stanford, Northwestern (not as many from LACs and hardcore math/science/engineering schools like MIT, Carnegie Mellon, Amherst etc.)

And then there were hundreds and hundreds of no-name schools that had anywhere from 1-5 students at Harvard med school.

Can't really say too much about Columbia or Washington

Funny enough, for the past couple years, the Harvard med school valedictorians were Cornell students :)

How do you know ACornellA?

Do Cornellians get into top med schools?

I'm pretty sure that we have a good chance given that we come form cornell! It depends on how hard you work at Cornell. I seem to get the impression that Cornell students don't have much difficulty in getting into med school. For instance, at Cornell Days the engineering advisors were saying that cornell engineers get places in the top med schools like Harvard, Stanford etc. Sorry, i can't remember any statistics

In actuality, Cornell's medical school has an acceptance rate of 4.3%, while Harvard's is 5.2%, therefore, it's easier to get into Harvard's medical school than it is to get into Cornell's. :)

That's because Weill is in a super-nice section of NYC.

is it? I didn't know that, but Weill is really nice from what I have seen on the website.

Hey guys,

Cornell grads do fairly well getting into various med schools, though Cornell Med doesn't take a large number of cornell undergrads unlike many stateschools, which favor their own students.

Here are some stats: http://www.career.cornell.edu/HealthCareers/acceptedApplied.html
