Hello,I’m Mattia and i come from Albania.I want to study medical school outside my country so if u have any advices on what should i do,feel free to reply.?
Being an International applicant, your chances are very slim in getting into a US Medical school. Do you already have an Undergraduate degree? Can you pay full fees each year to attend a US Medical School, think a minimum $50K+/year?
No 50k a year its too mutch.i can do up to 25k a year?
Well you will not get any financial aid since you are not a US citizen. If you do get accepted, how do you plan to pay?
Do you already have an Undergrad degree with the Med school perquisite courses completed or do you need to also complete your Undergrad degree before applying?
@Mattia In the US, medical school is a post-graduate program of study. This means you will need to come to the US to complete an undergraduate (baccalaureate) degree first.
Even if you do earn your baccalaureate in the US, the odds of an international student being accepted into a US medical school are extremely poor. Last year fewer than 100 non-Canadian internationals were accepted. There are ~21,000 medical school seats available in the US and these go overwhelmingly to domestic students.
Then, as @Gumbymom mentioned there is the cost. International students are not eligible financial aid in the US and the average cost of medical school is well over USD$60,000/year. You will need to prove you can pay this by placing anywhere from $150,000 to $300,000 into US escrow account before you will be allowed to enroll.
There are a number of medical programs in Europe (Germany and Poland immediately come to mind) and the Middle East that accept foreign students, accept them immediately after completing high school, and cost much less than medical school in the US does. Many of these schools offer instruction in English. It will be easier & less expensive to attend medical school and then find a residency positions in another EU country than would be to attend med school & do a residency in US.
@WayOutWestMom and @Gumbymom thanks for your advices but i havent finished high school yet and my target are universitys that are in the EU.
We Americans do not know much about other countries medical schools and their system as medical education is very regional oriented.
However, I can say this I just visited a town that has a medical school that is 1,000 years old. You would not go wrong with a school system that old do you?
