Medical School

Hey guys..
Im just a sophmore right now in HS... yep highschool.
I know that I want to be a surgeon after college and I am in a dilema as to which college or which course should I go?
I know Medical School is after college, but there are also 6,7 year programs out there such as at UF and TUFTS and I guess if I wanted to get into those programs Id have to go to their schools to get my full chances.
At the same time, there are better schools out there such as Duke and Washington University (St. Louis).
Are all medical schools the same and does it matter what undergrad college I go to as long as I get my Board Certified licenses?
Right now I do not know whether to first go to a top notch undergrad school and then apply to medical school, full 4 years at UF (Finacially Efficent) or other schools or would it be better to get into one of the 7 year programs from the start such as UF and stay at that school till residency? There are benefits to both I guess... but basically my final question is... "Does the name of the school matter if you are going to be a surgeon"
I would appreciate it extremely if any of you in medical school or applying to medical school could give me pointers on preparing my self and going the right way to becoming a doctor.
Thanks in advanced.

All medical schools are not the same. Someone from UCSF will have a much easier time getting into a good residency program than someone from say UF.

Hrm...
There is a program at UF, the Junior Honors program which only 12 people are sleected each year to go to their med school early. Say I get into this program... would it help me get a better residency?
Also... does a better residency mean better salary? I thought medicine was a skill-oriented field meaning youd have to show skill to get board certified.

You can get into a quality residency from about any American med school as long as you're good. A "better" residency does not translate into more money or a superior doc - that is individual specific. Go to a good school, enjoy yourself and make the grades. A state school is OK....undergrad or grad...

Yeah, Med. school is HARD to get into, and UF is one of the tops in the nation. If I were interested in that, I would definetely go for the program at UF. Even no name med. schools have really low admittance rates.

UF is one of the tops of the nation?
Im sure Duke outranks it right?
See, Im thinking Duke would probably cost me 5-7 times as much as if I went to UF. For UF, I would get a free-ride for the good 3-4 years and even get paid to go to school, but at DUke, Ive heard its very hard to get financial aid.

I don't mean it is literally #1, but in the top tier. It's ranked #40. I assure you that you won't be settling to go to UF med. school, most pre-meds couldn't even get in there. I would inquire further in the Med school discussion of CC, or another board about Med school. I am definetely not an expert on this.
