Medicinal/Pharmaceutical Chemistry

I am interested in this career path but would like to learn more. What is the general track to becoming a medicinal chemist? Undergraduate? Graduate? What schools offer programs? Undergraduate? Graduate? And what is the job outlook like?

Go for finance, and hire a chemist for 15 dollars an hour (that’s what they make anyways) to tell you about this.

Sorry, but the pharma bubble has burst BIG time. I was formerly employed doing med chem in industry…stay far far away.

Google Pharma and layoffs and you will get a pretty good clue as to what is going on.

50,000 layoffs in 2010 and there have already been thousands this year. Abbott Labs just announced another 1200 last week.

The pharma industry won’t be recovering anytime soon either. They have very little in their pipelines and it takes 10 years to develop a new drug. They will be offshoring a lot of their science operations to places where they can get Ph. D.'s for $15k.

Pharma = The Titanic. Don’t buy tickets for a ship that is sinking rapidly.
