Hello!
I'm currently a 12th grader, 16 years old, studying in India, looking to study medicine abroad.
I was wondering if I could complete my bachelor's degree (pre-med) in Australia and then go to a med school in the U.S. Do you think this is a feasible option or do you think I should go ahead and do an undergrad medical course (MBBS) in Australia itself.
One of the main reasons I don't want to stay back in India is because I want to experience new cultures and be more international.

I'd be grateful if you would be so kind to share your experiences as an Indian student studying medicine abroad (anywhere). Any suggestions or advices are most welcome.

Thank you.

If you are 100% sure that medicine is your calling, do your MBBS in Australia. Medical schools in the US, from what I know, rarely even consider applications from international students. You’d need outstanding MCAT scores, research/clinical experience and a very high GPA. Even then, you might not get in. It would be a wiser option to study for an MBBS degree in Australia.

Best of luck!

Thank you!
Okay one more quick question. Can I practice medicine in the US once I’m done studying? Or is that a lengthy process as well?

I do not claim to be an expert on studying and practicing medicine abroad but from what I know, you can do your residency/internship/fellowship in the US after studying medicine in another country. This will naturally open the doors for you to practice medicine in the US. I personally know many people who have done this.
