Ok, so with the rd deadline about a week away, I'm kinda freaking out about where I have a better chance of getting in: Medill or Weinberg. My first choice is Medill and I've already written my essays with an emphasis on wanting to go to Medill. I went to Discover NU and focused mainly on Medill. If you asked me to talk about Weinberg, I probably couldn't say as much. The problem is, I don't have much high school journalism experience (started writing sports for my school's newspaper just this year) and I'm worried that it might not be enough. I believe I write well, though, and I'm pretty sure the rec my English teacher wrote was pretty good. If anyone wants to read my essays and tell me what they think, PM me and I'll also give you an overview of my academics, ECs, etc. Any help would be greatly appreciated, especially from current NU students or alumni.

Well, Weinberg consistently has slightly higher average SAT than Medill. I think the notion that Medill is harder to get in than Weinberg is probably just a myth. Medill is the most difficult journalism school to get in simply because the Ivies and Stanford..etc don't have journalism schools. The lack of journalism experience may be a legit concern but lack of true interest (if you are applying to Weinberg when you really want journalism) may be even worse.

If I apply to Weinberg, I would be undeclared (I would be fine with that). But I've heard from lots of people that it's almost impossible to transfer into Medill so I would prefer to apply there, since I do like sports writing. I'm still not completely sure about journalism in general, though. If I decide to apply to Weinberg instead, I would have to rewrite a big part of my Why NU essay.

If you want Medill, apply to Medill. You have very little chance of being able to transfer from Weingberg to Medill once you are there. If it's just "NU" that you want though, and you don't really care which individualized school you attend, then you should obviously apply to Weinberg since they do accept more students.

Yes, the SAT is higher in WCAS, but that's because Medill is more specialized. An accomplished journalist with lower SAT's, I'd say, has a better chance than a regular amazing student with no journalism EC's and a 1600. But I'm not an admissions rep. Anyway, if you're set on journalism, definitely apply directly to Medill.
