Im freaking out.. my GPA is mediocre.. my school is well respected private school. I am on the honor roll with 90/100 average. I had personal issues sophomore year which affected my gpa, and my college counselor talked about that. I do not mean to sound pretentious, but quite frankly this is probably low for Huntsman program/Wharton. My EC's are great, and match with huntsman perfectly, so I am not worried about that. My essays were on point. My SAT score was a 2370. I really think my GPA is a killer though.. I firmly believe I have everything else. If you are a current huntsman student please let me know if there are kids with such GPA's. Oh.. and I am tracking hindi.

sigh

-______-

man please dont be like that… my school doesnt do percentile… but i know im not in the top 10%… i actually do think its going to hurt. my average is not even 90… i rounded that up… it is actually an 89.79.

Penn: Reach

Dude…you have a 3.7 gpa (what a 90 equivocates to). That’s not a “mediocre” average. Although penn is always a reach, your stats automatically put you in the higher echelon of applicants.

are you familiar with huntsman? from what i hear it is more about passion than about gpa and grades… and i feel i have that… but idk… a lot of anxiety i guess.

There is a world outside of GPAs. Everyone has strengths and weaknesses. You are not a GPA. Every adcom knows that. I’m not sure what a 90 translates to, but you have a near perfect SAT score and say you have some good ECs. Work on your essays and get some good LoRs and you should have a fine chance. Maybe if you have a reason your grades are ‘sub-par’, your counselor can articulate why that’s the case, but focus on what makes you a strong applicant for these schools.

yeah my counselor did write about what i went through… but then again these schools says so much about grades and gpa being the most important thing as if that is the be all and end all. hopefully they are as “holistic” as they say they are.

Huntsmen, nope. Wharton, even, is not a good chance. Regular progam, you got half a chance. What does your counselor say about your chances? Have there been kids from your school that have gotten accepted with your grad history and test scores? Do many kids from your school apply there, go there? that has a lot of bearing in tthis.

well it isnt a good chance for anyone… its Huntsman*… and my counselor says with my ecs and sat test scores my gpa can be overlooked a little bit… and the issues i faced can get sympathy… she says im a good fit for the program and my essays are written very… well… all in all… other than my gpa, i am good. grad history is this… no one from my school usually applies ED to PENN. I am in the princeton area so all the kids apply to Princeton and we send 6-8 to Princeton a year. Kids do get accepted to PENN… maybe like 2 a year but no one goes… 140 kids in my graduating class.

from what i know… huntsman looks beyond these numbers… they care about something different… they want passion. Dont ivies reject a handful of 4.0’s and 2400’s every year…

I know people who have gotten into UPenn with mediocre GPA’s (3.5-3.7) and great test scores. You’ve got an solid GPA, and I’m sure you could get into Penn with that.

As for Huntsman, I’m not sure. I’ve heard that Huntsman is more about passion than numbers, so if your EC’s are IR/business related I’d say you have a pretty good chance.

Frankly, UPenn Wharton is a reach for everyone; however, for you, I’d say you have an advantage over most applicants!

Please Chance Back!

" I’d say you have an advantage over most applicants!"

Not really

Penn: Reach (Low GPA)

just interviewed with them today… the lady said… it is more than just grades… (i gave her my resume)… she said that i am exactly what they are looking for and a perfect grade… we’ll see how far that goes… they probs say that to everyone.
