Wharton Chances

Hey Everyone,

I am extremely interested in applying to Penn early decision next year and was curious about the "ideal" SAT score and GPA that an accepted applicant would carry.

Chance Me?

My high school's GPA is Graded on a weighed 5.0 scale and does not give any brownie points for subjects like gym, culinary etc. Only Academic subjects are scored. My high school is also a gold medal high school, ranking around 250 in the nation out of 21,000 High schools.

Freshman Year: I had a lack of care in middle school which resulted in my enrollment in B level classes.
GPA- 3.33 (straight A-'s and one B+)

Sophomore year: All Honors level courses. Sophomore difficulty rank- 10/10
GPA-4 .5 (Top of class)

Junior Year: 4 AP's 2 Honors. Junior Difficulty Rank- 10/10
GPA- 4.75 (Top of Class)

I am expecting the same thing for my senior year.

After acquiring straight A-'s in low level my Freshman year, I took a risk of moving into all honors classes which resulted in all A+'s. My Junior year I took 4 AP's and 2 Honors classes, agin receiving all A+'s. Since colleges like to see vast improvement over the course of your HS career, I'm hoping the low level classes during my freshman year will be to benefit, as I received all A+'s in high level throughout the rest of my career.

SAT:
-2200

My extra curricular were pretty much all business related in some way:

-Future Business Leaders of America (President).
-Amnesty International (President).
-Popular singer on youtube (50k followers).
-Taken camps at Penn
-Started small business
-Many more business EC's

I have connections to Penn through my father. My dad is an extremely successful entrepreneur who created one of the most successful record companies of all time. He had artists such as Fleetwood Mac, Iron Maiden and many more. He will definitely donate money to Penn. Hopefully he can use some of his magic and money :/

I have received numerous academic awards in each subject that i do not feel like listing right now. haha. Advanced Scientific research contest awards (business related). FBLA, NHS and more academic.

I am Male, 1/2 indian and have traveled to numerous every continent except for Oceania and Antarctica.

Business is something I am extremely passionate about and would love to work with my father one day. I truly believe I will have a top notch essay for various reasons. Back in my earlier years (elementary school through the beginning of sophomore year) I had diagnosed anxiety in which I was highly medicated for. I was also diagnosed with a disease called Trichiliamania (not sure of spelling) which is when an individual pulls there air out due to stress and anxiety. I will not explain any more, as there I could write a novel of how much distress this caused me. I also lost 25 pounds my freshman year, as I was a tad chubby before. Pretty cut now (Don't know if this helps)

How are my chances?

Thank You for your time, Guys!

What is your cumulative GPA? (Unweighted if possible).

My GPA averages to about a 4.25-3 which is considered very high for my HS, but not VAL/SAL. Will the vast amount of improvement I’ve made academically compensate?

My school grades on a 4.33 for unweighted. I come out at around a 4.0

I’m not sure if this is a fair conversion all things considered (as my school doesn’t do weighted GPAs so I don’t really know), but a 4.25/5 = a 3.4 GPA. A 3.4 is definitely too low for Wharton, even if it’s due to Freshman year. I’ve been told I stand no chance with my 3.7 (which is also due to a poor freshman year); however, I think I saw you post somewhere else that your Dad is a big donor to PENN so with that in mind, this is all pretty irrelevant if that’s the case lol. (My sibling who attended Wharton told me that the Wharton class is packed full of students with very affluent influential parents who pulled some strings. So with that in mind you’re good to go lol). Good luck!

my unweighted on a 4.0 scale is around a 3.85-9

Did you make an error typing your freshman year GPA? I don’t see how a 3.85-9 would be possible with a 3.33 freshman year GPA, especially if that’s weighted. I think you did make a mistake because I don’t see how all A-s and 1 B+ would check out to a 3.33 anyway. Also what’s the SAT breakdown? A 2200 is good, but it’d be even better if the highest score was in math and nothing was in the 600s.

Sorry, that was weighted. My frosh year was a 3.65

You have a 12-13 percent like all the other qualified candidates.

Which means you have a high chance of being rejected.

I am really interested, maybe even more interested in Econ and PPE at CAS. How do I qualify for those?

I say relax, chill out and just apply. You have better odds if you apply ED.

And have a good plan B and C.

Come back here and let us know how helpful having a rich dad is too.

Since you have a business background and really seem passionate on business ECs, I hope you apply to Wharton, and then get in. I don’t know if you want to alter your goals just to get into CAS, because you’re acceptance chances are almost the same. Really narrow down what you want to major in, and good luck!
