One of the recommendations made to those interested in studying composition is to familiarize yourself with 20th/21st Century music and composers. This new podcast seems like it could be a good resource for students (and their parents who are struggling with understanding the world of new music.)

From their website..."Meet the Composer is a new podcast from Q2 Music that takes listeners into the minds and creative processes of the composers making some of the most innovative, compelling and breathtakingly beautiful music today. The show is hosted by critically-acclaimed violist Nadia Sirota and funded in part by a successful Kickstarter campaign."

Reading Alex Ross’ book “The Rest is Noise” is helpful as is New Music Box online. But this show looks interesting , thanks!

I contributed to the Kickstarter campaign but haven’t even listened yet! What does that say about me? @musictechdad - a very good recommendation for young composers and their families. Thanks for pointing it out.

There’s also a fun series of youtube videos of the Meet the Composers panels through the years at the Cabrillo Festival of Contemporary Music. https://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=Meet+the+Composers+Cabrillo

Listened to one episode a while ago and forgot to check in for new episodes. Definitely worthwhile. :)

My daughter has been listening to this…
