Mega Thread: Calling on all current & prospective ROTC parents

And, of course, God bless your S as he heads to Iraq.

^ He is leaving Iraq! Has been there in a combat zone for a year!

D is supposed to be getting organized or working…She leaves on Sat. at 6:00am for 6 hour drive for the launch to her college.

(If you are from MD, it’s not your S. ;))

Doh! Welcome home sokkerson!

I’m dropping goaliegirl off at her dorm a week from next Sunday. Her Campus has new leadership (previous Major running program is now in charge of a larger sister school). New leader is supposed to have arrived last week. Haven’t heard anything yet for startup of operations. Goaliegirl expects to do APFT sometime during her first week.

We will be dropping off our daughter at Cal Poly in mid-September (a quarter school). She is very excited (and I think frustrated having to wait another 4 weeks while watching many friends head off for college now). It is good news though in that there always seems to be some hicup in the process for us. She got a leg injury several weeks ago that has forced her to quit running for 4-6 weeks. So she’ll probably be late doing her APFT. However, that later start is certainly going to be helpful for her to recover.

1sokkermom- Congratulations on your son’s upcoming homecoming!

Congrats to all who are starting ROTC this fall. I hope it will be a smooth transition for them. S1 has been out for over a year now…those four years fly by folks…get ready, lol.

1sokkermom is right. You will see big leaps of maturity as your kids progress through the ROTC program. They are more focused on what lies ahead at the end of the four years than most. And that’s good.

1sokkermom…whoopee for that deployment to be over. I know you will be overjoyed to see your S again. Many thanks to him for his service.

My S1 (NROTC) who commissioned over a year ago is still in EOD school. It is a long and ardurous road.

Mariner -

Sorry to hear about your daughter’s injury. Hope she’s back running soon. Make sure she listens to the professionals so she doesn’t re-injure. It is going to be hard not to go all out when she arrives on campus.

Hello. I hope all our kids are making smooth transitions to cadet life.

Son seems to be doing OK. He passed his APFT on the first try, Aug 20. Contracted Aug 26. And he’ll be in the color guard at the first football game, Sept 2. So far both his Saturdays have required him to get up at 0545, which he’s not too crazy about. (APFT one day and a ropes course “field trip” the other day.) Oh well. Welcome to the Army, boy. ;)
