Men at Sea was produced by the NBC Radio Network and two of MARAD’s predecessor agencies, the War Shipping Administration and the U.S. Maritime Commission. MARAD’s Public Affairs Office sent to Ed Walker, who produces and hosts the program, 19 programs reproduced from the holdings of the Library of Congress. The programs originally ran in the summers of 1943, 1944, and 1945, and were intended to aid recruitment for the merchant marine.

Mr. Walker is very enthusiastic about the quality of the Men at Sea series, which included some well-known actors and were very well produced. He plans to run one a month, probably in the 9 pm-10 pm hour, beginning in August. We are very pleased that he has chosen to run these programs. Please spread the word among people you know who are interested in the merchant marine, its heritage, and its history. When there are more specifics on the dates of the broadcast, the Public Affairs Office will get the word out to MARAD people. WAMU-FM is at 88.5 on the FM dial.
