Men's Basketball: Still No Video

I’m an upcoming senior. Do I start the process by emailing coaches?

However, I don’t have any highlights from my high school team or club AAU team. How should I go about navigating the process? I didn’t get enough varsity play time on my school team as a junior (but will as a senior), and my club games don’t normally get filmed.

How much of a problem will I have without a video?

I’d love to be Ivy level, but realistically I’m probably D3. My grades and GPA are reasonably strong. I didn’t know what to tell coaches or how they can evaluate me athletically without any film.

Just go to summer camps?

No video is a big problem.

I assume you’re talking about summer college camps, not exposure camps? You can go to college summer camps, but it’s going to be hard to go to enough camps to cast a wide enough net for recruiting purposes. And ideally you should have contacted the coaches at the schools whose camps you’d want to attend ahead of the camp, and have sent them film ahead of time.

If you’re talking about summer exposure camps, then film doesn’t matter, but you’re going to be going against highly athletic, high D1 players, and it’s unlikely you’re going to get noticed.

You really need to have someone film your AAU ball this July so you can start sending in highlight tapes to coaches this August. You’re kind of late in the game for bball recruiting, even for D3. DD ‘16 started getting recruited for girls’ basketball off of film starting spring of sophomore year and was committed by November of senior year. Boys’ basketball is even more competitive.
