MENSA... plus or minus

Do you think that saying you were a member of MENSA on your application would be a good thing or a bad thing?

Personally, I think it could go either way. It's a unique "EC" to have if nothing else, but it does give off a pretentious vibe.

What do you think?

For the record... I AM NOT A MEMBER OF MENSA!!!! I was just curious after having a debate about it with my parents.

Don't do it. HOpefully this translated into good SAT/ACT scores--and that's what's important.

There's nothing special about it. Leave it off/don't consider joining for an application. It's also not an EC.

It could be an award..but im part of it and i did not put it down.

It's an organization that some members really enjoy, but I wouldn't mention it anywhere on a college application unless you do MAJOR community service through Mensa (as some local members I know do). I am not a member; I've never been interested in joining.

I joined MENSA last year, and i chose to not write it in my college apps. I never became really involed, maybe an occasional game night, but i didn't do enough with it for me to constitute mentioning it.

Isn't MENSA like, a club for geniuses?

We don't have any around where I live...

MENSA has a lot of chapters around the world.

I just think that it's ridiculous (even stupid) that you have to pay an organization for it to tell you how smart you are (being a member of MENSA and paying its dues).

If they know you are a genius, then you might be held to a higher standard.

Especially if the adcom doesn't have the required IQ to get into MENSA.

Admissions officers don't like tireless plodders either. So what do they like? Effort and discipline or natural talent? If CLC2 were right...they wouldn't like either. And that just makes no sense.
