Mental health, Attendence, and College Admissions

All together I missed about 70 days of school throughout the past three years in high school. Sophomore year was the worst. I missed about 56 of the days then and nearly or did fail all of my classes. I had just transferred to a new school and had a hard time adjusting. I felt like I was losing my mind. Later in the year I got diagnosed with adhd-pi, an anxiety disorder and both of those things led to constant depressive episodes. I was prescribed meds but never got to take them bc of family. I also had to discontinue therapy because of insurance issues.

Junior year was better. I only missed 11 days(still bad but progress for me) and managed to pass with all Bs and a few A’s with honors and AP classes. I also participated in clubs, volunteering, and snagged an internship while working over the summer.

Is there hope for me getting into a “good” college? How do I explain how my mental health played a role in my High school career? Will high sat/act scores help me even if my GPA is kind of low? On paper it may look like I was a student that just didn’t care but thats far from the truth.

My daughter went through similar things to you. She only applied to one college and got in with a scholarship (she didn’t go but that is another story). She had no AP classes, low test scores, lots of days out of school, mental health issues and a 3.4 GPA. It is definitely possible to get into a good college. Don’t think the only good colleges are those in the top 50 or even the top 100. You can find good programs in all kinds of colleges. Good test scores will help. It is possible.
