Try making a new thread under financial aid and scholarships. Mention your stats, state of residence and that you know about UA and Temple as full rides. Also, state how much your parents will pay. This could be the amount an in-state school costs. Say that you want to identify large scholarships at schools with a good journalism program because your parents can’t afford the full EFC for OOS or private schools and that their income is too high for much financial aid.
@txstella thanks so much!
My daughter applied around Sept 1 and was accepted to MSU as an OOS around Oct 15. She had an act of 33 and GPA of 4.3/4. She was invited to join the Honors College. This invitation came with her acceptance letter as well as an offer of in state tuition, a research job ($2500/year), and a study abroad scholarship of $5000. She was invited to a scholarship competition for a full ride where approximately 1500 students take a test and the top ten get full rides and around 20 more get half rides. All of this was before any FAFSA was submitted. MSU does a very good job trying to attract top students and we were very impressed with the way we were treated during our visits. This was her number one school for most of her Senior year even though both of her parents are Illinois grads. At the time of her decision, MSU was $10k per year less than U of I. She ultimately chose the U of I because we felt it was a better fit for the family and her career. That being said, once the choice was made and the May 1 deadline passed, the U of I started sending offers for scholarships. I will say that if MSU had not been 6 hours away from us and the U of I only and hour, I believe I would have been hearing a lot of Go Green! Good luck and congrats on your academic achievements.
