Hey how do principal/counselor nominations for merit scholarships work?
For example, the Emory Scholars Program says that a school can only nominate 4 students. Does that mean 4 students total (to all colleges combined) or just 4 students to Emory's scholarship?

How nominations are made vary between HSs. For instance, schools which are familiar with the Emory scholars program likely have teachers nominate students or have a meeting with the GC to discuss who will be nominated. In contrast, at our HS, where very few people know about the scholarship, my D talked to the GC about her interest and he nominated her.

If Emory says that there is a limit of 4 nominations per HS, then that means that your school can only give Emory the names of 4 seniors that are applying there for scholarship consideration.

You should talk to your GC and ask how they handle this type of nomination. If they aren't familiar with it, you can give them the appropriate websites and tell them that you are interested.
