Hi everyone -

I'm new to this board, as my son is beginning to get serious about his college choices. Elon seems like it might be a very good fit for his personality, but I was wondering about chances for merit aid. Does Elon provide many opportunities?

Elon does give merit aid, but it isn’t generally a large amount. Their pricetag for everyone is lower than many private colleges (about $38k this year) though. So it’s important to keep in mind the bottom line figure of what a college will cost, and not just how much merit aid they give.

For example, 2 years ago when Elon cost $34k, a friend’s son got offered $4k in merit money from Elon and $13k in merit money from Northeastern. But since Northeastern cost $47k, Elon was still less expensive.

There is the Presidentoal scholarship, which I believe is $4000/year and is awarded to the top students. There is also the Fellows program, with several categories, which requires a separate application and an interview process. There is also a new Engagement scholarship.
