I am an OOS applicant and was wondering if I would have a chance at receiving a scholarship.
I am from PA
Unweighted GPA 3.67
Weighted GPA 3.81
ACT Composite 27
Vigorous Coursework including mostly honors classes through high school,AP Macroeconomics and Dual enrollment through the University of Pittsburgh.
I plan on majoring in Computer Science.
If I was not eligible or have a chance for a scholarship how could I better improve my chances.

The web site certainly implies that the merit scholarships are available to OOS. Email admissions though to confirm that. The minimum award for the Provost scholarship (you’re not really in range for the Presidential) is $2500/year, and you’d need a 90 GPA (I believe unweighted but, again, confirm that with admissions). I’m not sure what your 3.67 translates to (yet again, ask admissions), but it has to be at least a 90 for you to qualify. If 3.67 is not a 90, Im guessing it’s close, and that’s what you’ll need to focus on this year.

Minimum ACT is 27 (1200 on SAT), so you’re good there. Your “extras” sound good, so if you hit the 90-27/1200 minimums, you should have a good chance. Unless you bump the numbers up quite a bit though (possible on the tests, statistically not likely on the GPA), I wouldn’t think you’d qualify for much more than the $2500 ($10k over four years). That may not sound like much compared to what other schools may offer, but bear in mind UB’s tuition, even for OOS, is substantially lower than most comparable schools. Always look at the bottom line. Note that you also have to maintain a 3.0 GPA to keep the scholarship from year to year.

Thanks for responding. That is what I read, just wanted to clarify.

One of my friends is from PA and she said that they do bump up the Provost to offset the increased tuition for OOS, I’m not sure if it’s ~7500 or 12500 though (for the year)

And I’m not sure what your stats would have to be for that.

What the maximum amount I could get as an OSS applicant with a 1220 SAT and 5.0625/4.00 GPA with fives on the AP Calc AB and Us History test?

I think that would be conjecture on the part of anyone on this post. You can ask Admissions/Finanicial Aid, but I don’t think they’re going to give a specific answer now either. I think you just have to apply and make sure all of your finaincial info is in - I believe by December 31. Awards are sent out in February.
