Merit Scholarship Question

So I know in past years people who were being considered for merit scholarships were notified early, and then invited down to interview. But I heard that they’re not doing this anymore? They just add it in to your acceptance letter/financial aid award?
Also, do most of these scholarships go to RD applicants, to persuade them away from ivies and other top schools, or is it pretty even between RD and ED?

There are 3 separate merit scholarships. According to CMC’s website (http://cmc.edu/admission/scholarships/default.php), to be considered the application has to be in by December 1. All applicants are considered and it appears that between 60-65 incoming freshman get one of the two scholarships (10k per year or full ride). But my guess is they likely skew to the RD applicants who apply before the 12/1/14 deadline. After all, those who qualify for the merit scholarship are less likely to apply ED since they are likely to get in at CMC and many other extremely selective schools.

Ok so do they just mail the awards with the acceptance letters? I know they used to invite them down to interview but I remember ready somewhere that they stopped doing that, but I can’t find where I read that info
