Merit scholarships at Davidson

Has anyone gotten merit scholarships or is finalist for the Belk scholarship at Davison College for 2018?

Following your thread @allima1 . I’m curious as well!

I posted on another thread that D18 got a “nope” from the Belk. Her very nice rejection email indicated that this was not necessarily an indication of “No” for admission or other merit opportunities. Let’s hope so.

On their website, semi-finalists are released around this time and finalists are not announced until mid March. Does anyone know if you are named a semi-finalist for the Belk scholarship, if that also means you are accepted for admission?

I have been named a finalist for the Class of 2022 Missy and John Kuykendall Scholarship at Davidson College.

Is it assumed that ED candidates are not in the running for any of the merit scholarships at Davidson?

Would appreciate anyone who gets info on merit scholarships in the next week or so posting. We did get some need-aid (more than we expected actually so very appreciative), but it’s still one of the most expensive options on the table for D given merit aid she’s been offered other places. Davidson is such a great place!

Just to follow up, ED candidates are always considered for merit and FA office told me it happens every year that some ED kids end up with the Belk or the other art/music merit awards. Obviously, though, ED candidates have to commit with the package they get in Dec. if merit comes through later, that’s just a bonus.

FYI
Some RD merit scholar finalist are being interviewed onsite this week4/5-4/6.

Wow. Anyone know when those kids find out? Hard to be making decisions without that final merit info.

@Volunteerism – yes, I saw that. I was wondering if they are the only ones still being determined. (D was nominated for the Belk but didn’t make it past the first round – only something like 100 out of more than 1000 did!)

We can wait another week or so though – and then it’s decision time!

Congrats to all being considered and good luck this weekend!!!

@homerdog – I think this weekend’s interview finalists will know soon.

I might break down and call this week so see if it’s only those big awards that are still being determined (which my D is not in the running for). The website talks about smaller ‘general scholarships’ but I’m wondering if they’ve already been awarded and the reason they gave an April 10 notification date for merit is b/c of this weekend’s interviews. . .

@AlmostThere2018 I would totally call if I were you! I’m sure they could answer your question in one minute.

@homerdog – you inspired me and I call! But they’re closed for Easter Monday, lol. Will try tomorrow! Tks

@AlmostThere2018 yes! Call tomorrow! I called to ask if ED kids are considered for merit and the person who answered the phone had my answer right away. The whole conversation was two minutes long. I kind of learned a lesson. You can post on CC and see if someone out there knows the answer to your questions or you can make a quick phone call and get the correct answer!

@AlmostThere2018
Thanks. It is an honor being a finalist however I will wisdraw from consideration today before the interview as I decided to accept an offer for admission at an Ivy League school where my older sibling is currently attending.

Good luck and best wishes. Davidson is a great school.

@Volunteerism – congrats and I’m sure you’ll do great in college!!

Done, Thanks!

Following this thread. My daughter is a junior and just toured at Davidson last week. She loved it. It’s out of our reach, financially, and so I am interested in the merit scholarships offered at Davidson. I am confused about something though… should she apply for early decision? It’s a binding decision but it seems like the merit awards are not offered until after the early decision commitment has to happen. How does that work???

Take a chance and see how much financial aid you get. Davidson has some of the best financial aid!
