Merit scholarships for SAT Score? Chance me please

If I get into University of Pittsburgh (out of state), Temple University (out of state), George Washington University(out of state), and Virginia Commonwealth University (in-state), could I get any merit scholarships for a 1420 SAT Score? If so, what would be the amount of money I could get from each school?

Have you tried using each school’s Net Price Calculator, available on the school’s website? That’s a good place to start.

Some NPCs will predict merit scholarships. You can get some sense on whether any particular NPC does this by seeing whether they ask you for academic information when you fill out the NPC. The merit scholarships that my daughters got depended upon grades in one case, and a combination of grades and SAT scores in the other case.

You should also check the web site for each university and see whether they offer merit scholarships for out of state students.

George Washington University is a Private university. Your state of residence doesn’t matter at all

It isn’t about how much merit aid you get. It is about your final net cost. For example, if is very unlikely that you will get merit scholarships at GWU that will bring your net cost below VCU (instate) with no scholarships. Depending upon your GPA, it looks like you are in the running for a Dean’s (8k/year) or Provost’s(16k/year) scholarship at VCU. Just be careful, it looks like you need to keep a 3.3 cum GPA to keep the scholarships at VCU.

What is your GPA? Usually merit scholarships are based on SAT or ACT score AND GPA…not just SAT score.

In your previous threads, you mention majoring in nursing. Is that still the case? If so, look for your instate options. You are fortunate to be in VA where there are excellent public options available to you.

What can your parents afford to pay? GWU costs over $70,000 a year. That’s quite a lot more than VCU would cost you as an instate student.

I don’t think you would get substantial merit aid at Pitt. Temple used to have guaranteed merit awards but those are now gone. As an OOS student, I would guess you won’t see aid that would reduce the differential between in and out of state costs. Why are you looking at these PA publics when there are so many public universities in VA that would be less costly from the get go.

You will not get any merit from Pitt.

I have a 4.3 GPA. Although my current SAT score is solid, I don’t think I will get the merit aid I need for the out of state schools so I am trying one more time on the October SAT.

Yes, I am still interested in majoring in nursing and I am aware of the excellent public options in Virginia, but many of the schools do not offer the direct-admit nursing programs that I am looking for. I am applying to the PA schools because of the direct-admit schools and the location for internship/volunteering opportunities. I don’t think it hurts to apply to schools that have the programs I am interested in. Just want to see what happens.

Thank you for your help! Hopefully, I get into the following schools first and see what scholarships I can receive.

What is your unweighted GPA, core courses only?

Unweighted from Freshman up to the end of Junior Year, I have a 3.73 in my core classes.

University of Pittsburgh Greensburg has a nursing program I think. It might give you merit and has a lower COA than Pitt main.

Kids here in PA go to Clarion, Edinboro, IUP, Lock Haven, Seton Hill, St Francis, Gannon, Duquesne for nursing.

Run the net price calculator on the private school websites to see how much merit and need based aid they would give.

You might get some merit at PASSHE schools.

For higher merit chances, you could apply to U Toledo and WVU.
