Chances of getting a scholarship from Pitt

Pitt is my first choice. Unfortunately for me, the application process with them has been hell. I applied back in September, then they requested that I send in new SAT scores from the October 2017 test. It took about three weeks to hear back after I sent in my new SAT scores, and I was disappointed when I was notified that they want my mid year grades, meaning that I probably won’t hear back until February.

Anyway, I’m very passionate about going to Pitt, but my parents aren’t because another college is offerring me a scholarship totaling $64,000. I know I’m probably dumb for still wanting to go to Pitt, but I just want to see what my chances are of getting a scholarship for them would be. I have a 3.9 gpa and my SAT school is a 1260 (the reason I think they requested my mid year grades is because I applied to the school of nursing with below average SAT scores). I wasn’t able to provide a class rank in my application but I’m pretty sure I’m in the top ten.

I’m just wondering what anyone thinks about my chances of getting any sort of scholarship from Pitt would be, considering how competitive their scholarships are and the length of my admissions process. Thanks.

No chance. The fact that they asked for new SAT scores indicates that you are borderline for admission. Merit scholarships are awarded to top applicants - top 5% rank, A average, 33 ACT/1480 SAT and above.

Pitt is very clear on their website regarding the stats required for merit consideration. 1480 SAT and top GPA are required. In the past few years no one on CC has reported a merit scholarship with SAT scores in the 1200’s.

Hang in there–you will find the right place!! It’s good that you have another acceptance and scholarship. You have some options it sounds like. Keep working hard and showing that you can do the work!

What can your parents afford to pay? Are you out of state for Pitt?

I agree…your chances of a significant merit awards are small given your SAT AND that you are applying to nursing.

Good that you have another option already in the bag.
