Figured I would start a thread for anything in regards to the merit scholarships. If anyone hears anything don't hesitate to post!!!

Does anyone know when we will be notified if we are chosen as finalists?

So Furman was my son’s reach for several reasons. He did not actively seek scholarships since he really thought he wouldn’t be accepted. Is there any way to receive a merit scholarship this late in the game?

My D got an achiever scholarship without applying as part of the normal financial aid package. This notification came on March 31. Not sure if things have changed since 2011. Check with financial aid office. Good Luck

I just received a letter in the mail for the Duke/Lay Scholarship, saying that I am invited to interview in April!! By any chance does anybody know how many people are picked to be finalists, and how many Duke/Lay scholarships are actually offered?

Thanks srockrae! Will be hopeful and patient for mail to arrive!

I received a letter today informing me that I was a candidate for the Townes Scholarship and that I need to go down to campus in March for an interview. According to the website [Admission | Merit-based Scholarships](<a href=“Furman University | Top Private Liberal Arts University in Greenville, SC”>Furman University | Top Private Liberal Arts University in Greenville, SC) Furman takes 4 for the Lay, 10 for the Duke, and 20 for the Townes.

I was also selected for the Duke and Lay interviews. AceArmonia, my letter says the interviews are on March 25. Are there multiple weekends to interview? And I believe that there are about 30 finalists for the Lay and Duke.

Oops! Sorry about that, I made a typo. Yes, my letter says March 25 as well.

Good luck to all of you who are interviewing for the “named” scholarships! Just being invited to interview is a tremendous honor. To be honest, it is my understanding that some of the Honors and Achievers Scholarship pool has decreased as the school looks to expand it’s pool of more full pay students, and expand funding for URM’s. check with your admissions adviser to see if that is correct. Good luck to all of you-it’s a tremendous school.

Georgiatwins- what are URMs? and When you say full pay students, do you mean more students that pay full or they pay full for more students?

URM= under represented minority

full pay student= a student who pays full sticker price

Good luck to all interviewing!!
