Just wanted to let everyone know that invites to the scholarship weekend at Furman have been sent out. My son received his via Fed Ex this afternoon. Good luck to all whose waiting .
Congratulation I received a letter of invitation as well and am so excited! I was wondering if the invitation invites you to interview for all three (duke, Hollingsworth, and Townes) or since it specifically mentions Charles H Townes am I only in the running for that 1 specific scholarship?
Hollingsworth is for instate and Townes is for OOS. I think that one specific scholarship.
Congratulations, and good luck to you all.
Thanks @dheldreth
@carolinamom2boys Thank you for posting. I’ve been wondering when the letters would / would not be sent. No letter here. We’re out of state and know it’s a long shot to be invited to the scholarship weekend. It’s still down to Furman and Wofford for my son.
Both schools are wonderful , well respected schools. I have friends who have attended both and loved them. I don’t know about the Townes scholarships but our invite said that 25 were invited for Hollingsworth and that there are 10 scholarships available. Good luck to your son in his decision making process.
I’m in CT and haven’t heard anything so far. Has anybody in New England received an invitation yet?
And what weekend has been designated as scholarships weekend for OOS?
It will come in a fed ex mailer. They just started sending them out. I live 40 mins from the school . Good luck.
The actual interviews happen on Monday, Feb 22 with a reception on Sunday the 21 at.
@carolinamom2boys Good to have those dates! Thank you. My sun turns 18 on the 21st:))
That’d be a great birthday gift.
@carolinamom2boys I just read my earlier comment. I was dictating and didn’t check it. Obviously, my son (not sun) will turn 18.
@carolinamom2boys Part of my message didn’t post above. Nothing from Furman today. We will keep our fingers crossed in the days ahead.
I didn’t even notice the typo. It comes Fed Ex so it can come anytime
My daughter had applied for the competitive merit scholarships; but she got a letter yesterday (Saturday) from Furman stating that she would not receive any further scholarships beyond the $25K Bell Tower Scholarship that came with her letter of acceptance.
Congratulations to all those who are still in the running for further merit awards!
Thanks @gandalf78. To be honest, we had no idea how competitive the scholarships are, and we were quite surprised by the invite. Is your daughter still interested in Furman? We plan on attending the accepted student weekend the first Friday in April.
@gandalf78 Are you in-state or out-of-state? I’m relieved to hear that Furman sent a letter letting you know definitively. I will wait to see what comes in the mail before I call the school.
@carolinamom2boys: It turns out to be more competitive than I thought (although I shouldn’t be that surprised). As a data point, my daughter’s ACT = 34 and GPA = 4.3. My daughter is still interested in Furman, but my wife and I are somewhat less interested now. We may still take in an admitted students day; but we won’t make that call until after we find out about the RD application decisions and any scholarship awards from the other schools our daughter applied to.
@this8120: We are out of state.
