If I apply to a college, am I automatically eligible to receive merit scholarships? Do I still need to apply for them?
It depends on the scholarship and it depends on the school. Some scholarships require a separate application, and some are based on the strength of your admissions application.
How bout if you post your stats and the schools you are interested in applying to…folks here would likely tell you if you had a chance at merit aid.
Other threads you have started…you asked about OOS aid for University of Washington. I’d say…that his highly unlikely. You asked about merit at NYU. You would need to be at the tippy top of their applicant pool to get merit aid there of any significance. You asked about Boston University. Again…you would need to be at the very top of the heap to get significant aid there.
How much merit aid do you need?

You have a very LOW EFC
Sorry but you need a new list.
Either you won’t get into those schools or they won’t be affordable.
Fordham University, won’t likely get in, won’t be affordable if you did.
Syracuse University, won’t get in
New York University, won’t likely get in, won’t be affordable if you did.
University of Washington, won’t likely get in, won’t be affordable if you did.
University of San Francisco, won’t be affordable
Baylor University, won’t be affordable
Boston University, won’t likely get in, won’t be affordable if you did.
Emory University won’t likely get in
You do have something unusual especially for the East Coast schools - you are from Hawaii. I’m not sure they will give you merit money but it might boost your chances for acceptance.
Make sure you have some of your in-state public Us on your list.
A low income student from Hawaii needs an affordable list. Either schools that REALLY meet need or give huge merit. Stats won’t get huge merit.
Hawaiian students have another challenge…very high travel costs.
Yeah I have University of Hawaii at Manoa
@mom2collegekids my brother goes to usf and he pays about 12k a year. It seems that the other schools that I listed won’t work out though…
what was your brother’s stat?
Yes, what were your brother’s stats?
