Messed up but turned it around...chances?

So...in a nutshell I was too immature to go to college when I was 18, and wound up being academically dismissed from The College of New Jersey after 3 semesters. I had pretty decent stats in hs...3.7 GPA, 1990 SATS, lots of extracurriculars and AP credits...
I've been at my community college for the past three semesters turning everything around. I now maintain a 3.9 GPA and I'm in the honors program. I carry 18 credits a semester while working my a** off to pay for county and to pay my parents back for TCNJ (a steep bill). I re-applied yesterday for readmission with three amazing letters of recommendation, and an essay explaining the lessons I learned that brings most to tears. Has anyone had experience with re-applying after being dismissed? I have been dreaming of going back ever since I left, and I really hope that I can prove I'm ready this time around. I also applied to Rutgers NB and George Washington University for the hell of it. I did have to disclose on both applications that I was academically dismissed from another institution...but I also have been doing exceptionally well. What do you think? Have I ruined my chances completely?

Oh! And I was recently accepted to RU Camden...not really my top choice though =/ New Brunswick still pending!

You might have a chance for Rutgers-NB and GWU.
