I’m currently a CAP student at a UT Branch school and may potentially get a D in one of my classes which would not allow me to transfer automatically to UT-Austin in the fall. I should end up with a 3.52 GPA and 31 hours and looking for some places I could potentially transfer to for the fall or for the spring semester.
Some stats
College GPA- 3.52
Hours- 31
Major- Finance/Economics
State- Texas
ACT-26
SAT (M+CR)- 1150
HS GPA- 3.3
Top 40% of my HS
Looking to spend under $30,000 a year for total cost of attendance.
Right now my options are
A) Stay at my current branch campus (not known well at all for business)
B) Transfer to the University of Houston (business major)
C) Go to Austin Community College
The thought of staying at my branch campus or going to a CC does not really sound appealing to me so I’m just looking for potential destinations
UofH is a decent option. How do you feel about A&M or Texas State?
@danfer91 I didn’t have the Pre Reqs to apply to A&M and their deadline was March 1st so that limits that. Texas State seems to not have a particularly strong business program so that weakens my interest in them
Have you talked to your professor? Can you drop the class so you don’t receive the D?
@FloMoMom If I dropped the class then I wouldn’t have the correct number of hours to meet the requirements. Im waiting for my final exam grade to be posted so theres still a chance it goes to a C
If you struggled that much at a branch school, I think UT-Austin might be really tough for you.
@MaineLonghorn With the exception of this class I have a 3.89 GPA so I think I could handle UT. It also didn’t help because my teacher for this class was a brand new professor with a very thick accent and poor handwriting. Not trying to come off as defensive but I feel that if given the opportunity to attend UT-Austin I could handle it.
McLovin - I hope you have been attending this class regularly and the professor at least recognizes you. Talk to him and about your concern. Many variables here: could curve at the end, but has not communicated. or you just slipped up in this one class or he might just be generous if you politely pleaded your case or your teacher is just a bit off his rocker. If you have been fighting the good fight for a C, I would think he might work with you. Some classes just don’t work out. BTW, UT alum, high honors McCombs grad and I can attest some classes just don’t work out. I wish you luck as it sure seems this class is the exception to your demonstrated performance.
You could go to Bauer. Great business school. Most UH students commute as they are local, but campus life can be fun there too. And it would work with your college fund. I know cause I have one too lol. Last I checked, the tuition was only $5000/semester and an apt in the area would run $10000/yr at most.
