I’m currently a freshman—a very stressed out one, especially when it comes to the future. I’m currently in AP Calc AB, the highest math out school offers—but what should I do the remaining years? The only other class left for me is AP Stats, which is mostly seen as an elective. I don’t think colleges would like to see me be so advanced in math and just stop challenging myself. However, it is unclear to me what other options I have. There isn’t a community college nearby; in the past, juniors who took AP Calc would have to drive up to the University of New Hampshire for math classes there; however, I can’t drive, and I won’t be driving anytime soon. Do I try to find an online option? Or can I wait to decide until junior year and just take stats next year? I would benefit from a harder math class, because I’m going to finish the year off with a B/B+ grade in Calc, which doesn’t look too good. I need the room to improve.
Thanks.
Is the COAST bus an option for you?
I’d look for an online Calc BC course for the next year.
Should I take AP Stats along with BC?
Also, I haven’t heard about the COAST bus before, but I just realized that there is a station downtown. There is no station near my school, however.
I think AP Stats is up to you. You can take it later. For now, it’s important that you get a good grip on calculus and this will show you if you want to move to more advanced math classes. If you’ll be able to drive as a junior you’ll have more options.
Have you talked to your guidance counselor about it? It is their job to help with these things. He might suggest a multivariable calculus option online.
yucca10, funny thing is I got into a huge argument with my father yesterday and he ended up saying that he wouldn’t let me drive until college…hopefully this really isn’t the case. Otherwise, I’ll destroy everything in my house.
I’m meeting with my counselor tomorrow; she’s been helpful in the past, so hopefully we can work something out.
Incidentally, I don’t know you or your father but if you use arguments like " I’ll destroy everything in my house" even jokingly when arguing with your father, it’s not helping your case. I’d drop the subject for a while.
Obviously I don’t say things like that, but it’s still quite crazy what he does sometimes.
