Messed up my first semester.... what now?

Hi,

I’m new to this website and I have really been stressing out about my first semester and how they will affect me in the future.

I’m currently a freshman in a 30-ish university. I major in Aerospace and Mech Engineering. Also, I’m international. I used to be one of the best student in my home country and even received money from my home government to study here. I took 16 credit hours last semester and 19 this semester. I didn’t study as hard as I was in high school and get all B last semester. My grade is not really good this semester either. On my mid-term report l have 2 Cs, 1 B, 2 As and a 3.0 GPA.

I started to work harder after spring break and have already managed to get to very high As on two of my courses. I think my transfer dream is probably dead, and I afraid my grade will affect my future application to top Engineering Grad school. (like MIT haha)

What should I do. What are my chances to make it to a top engineering school? Does anyone have the same problem?

A 3.0 GPA for the first semester of college is not something that you should be all in a panic about yet. You have plenty of time to pull up your GPA and to keep it up.
