Metal music and culture at Davidson?

I love metal music and going to concerts and playing guitar and bass and everything about it. I've grown up listening to death metal, thrash, deathcore etc. and I really don't want to give up what I love. I have also played in several bands while in high school.
While I do enjoy metal music and culture I am also very smart and will be attending Davidson college next year. I am the sort of skinny jean and band t-shirt wearing kind of person.

I mainly ask this because most of my friends from high school who enjoy metal aren't going to college and aren't very serious students.

I'm just worried I will be sort of put aside from all the social scenes and parties because people might label me as weird or emo (incorrect) etc. I'm not socially awkward by the way. I am also worried that I might not find many girls that break away from dating rich preppy guys.

I just want to know if there is a metal music culture or scene in most colleges, especially a small liberal arts college (Davidson). Will I find people with the same passion as me? Or will I be overwhelmed by preppy conformist ******s like in high school.

I just don't want to change who I am and what I love.

Metal music probably would not be a put-off for most people but going around and saying that you are smart (especially with a 1750 SAT especially when you rediscover academics around here) might.

No offense intended. Just advice.

dmartin - - If you are a 1750 SAT, Metal hammer down dude, I would contact Davidson and BEG, really BEG to be released from my ED. You ain’t gonna fit at all. For you, Davidson will be MUCH worse than the high school you describe.

Martin I will also be going to Davidson in the fall. I don’t listen to metal music but I would also not describe myself as rich and preppy. I share your concerns about being surrounded by snobby prep school kids but when I stayed overnight in the fall, it was a really enjoyable experience and people seemed very open-minded. I think you will be able to find a group of people who may not necessarily share your taste in music but certainly won’t judge you for it. Don’t worry about your SAT score either, you’ve already been accepted, who cares now?
