I’ve recently fallen in love with Davidson… although it’s still not my dream school. Does that make sense? I was just interested in seeing if anyone else has applied there and/or gotten accepted or are planning on attending. I’m only a sophomore but I can’t help but stress abut this because I have so many schools I want to go to and I really need to narrow some things down. Could anyone tell me about Davidson’s atmosphere? I like that it’s close to home (SC) but I’m in interested in knowing more
sorry for the lost puppy dog effect of this post, I’ve been reading CC for a while but just recently made an account. thanks!
@cravingivy Davidson is a gem IF it speaks to you. It is quiet, small, increasingly diverse, and the faculty-student relationships in the nurturing environment of its honor code are a true asset. It has D1 athletics, although some teams are decidedly better than others. It has some theater, some music, a fraternity/eating house (instead of sorority) scene that fosters social systems without being dominant. It is 1700 or so, planning to grow to 2000. It has a strong pre-med program. Solid research opportunities. It’s physics dept is growing. A new chem building under construction. A relatively new President whose goals are lofty and being achieved. It’s is definitely a Presbyterian campus, yet it also has a chaplain rabbi on staff, and is quite accepting of alternative lifestyles. Academically, it is quite strong.
The atmosphere is… Comforting. In my humble opinion. The townspeople love the college, and the college community embraces the town. It has several nice merit programs. It’s dorms are basic. It has a 125 acre lake campus a few miles away. It has a cost effective shuttle system to Charlotte. And it has a nice outdoor program. And many
(Low competitive) club sports. Women’s Club Lax, for example, practices just 1x/week. Men’s more.
Ignore ratings. Buy Fiske book of colleges. Read it for a decent idea of each school. Visit. Spend a night if you can. Hope that helps!!
