I was just thinking: even I'm now in Graduate School, it is still a certainty of good times to come do CC threads, especially those under the "College Life" tab.

There are so many stories here, some of them impressive or unexpectable or unimaginable. Moreover, there are also some very recurring subjects discussed over and over in different threads, like: cut sports X athletics are important, I'm alone - why?, how to talk with your roommate etc.

Then, if I go the parents' forum, there are a lot of sad histories of fellow students getting lost, falling ill, depressed etc.

So, whenever I want to read the next weird/strange dating question, I came to College Life. If I want do cheer myself up in the sense "my life is not that bad", I read Parents' forum. Then, if I want to remember what self-selected competition can do to people, I read the admissions forum (I have 2300 SAT, will Duke accept me?).

I have to say I can’t take the people on these forums very seriously anymore. Their general views and attitudes toward the world seem a bit twisted.

I read this forum because I’m interested in college and college-related topics, but I dislike the obsession, snobbery, paranoia, and other “disorders” and quirks related with the population here.

I come to the College Life section mainly for laughs, and no, I don’t take most of the postings here seriously.

I’ve also spent a fair amount of time on CC’s Transfer forum and it seems a bit more serious and provides some good info/insight on the transfer process.

As for the Parents Forum: geez, it’s amazing how overly involved some parents are in their kids’ lives; thankfully my parents don’t try to micromanage every aspect of my life!

I use it as a study break just to kinda get my mind off of things for a bit. But a lot of the posts here are really stupid and repetitive sometimes so it does cheer me up every now and then.

i would say that between 1 and 2 years ago, CC was more informative, mature, and pleasant (in general) to read. i myself find the recent “i’m alone - why?” threads and the “most attractive women ever” threads to be completely useless.

i don’t want to sound nostalgic, but CCer’s used to stand behind each other in these forums…

Maybe in the other subforums, they still help each other… I don’t know because I haven’t been to them in awhile. But back then, we all had a common goal of getting into college.

im in HS currently, but looking at this makes me look forward to college even more. and reading some of the stuff is interesting, the other stuff is just people complaining that they aren’t social
