This post is just a general one for any students that will be attending Miami this fall and participating in the HPM program. Do any of you already know what courses you will be signing up for?

hey,
I'm going to be in the HPM next year as well. I'm planning on majoring in neuroscience, so I think I'll take intro to Psych and then hopefully organic, if I get a 5 on the AP chem (which is highly unlikely, :( ). I don't know what other courses yet. Maybe a higher level english course because i'd like to do a double major or minor in english as well, and perhaps like Spanish 101 since I took French in high school and considering that it's Miami, Spanish would be helpful.

what about you? what are you planning to major in? I got the packet from Dr. Mallery and I think we have to give him our course choices by July 22nd or something, right?

oh, and also, did you get a list of the other students who are going to be in the program as well? Dr. Mallery told me he would send it, but I never recieved anything, and I'd like to get in touch with some of the other students.

Thanks!

Hey, i'll be going into HPM this fall.
As for my major, im going for the simple Biology degree. I also got that packet, with our choices due on the 23rd of July.

As for my classes, I hope to get AP/IB credit, and start off in advanced sequences. My main goal will be to just maintain that 3.7 GPA, which wont be easy.

And as for the list, i havent even heard of the list, but it would be nice to get to know some other kids before actually going to miami.

And btw, where are you coming from Willy Shakes?

Although a few other posts have this topic i was wondering if anyone knew how to use the techbargains coupons. Do we just copy the code? and what are other peoples plans for laptops, in general. Going for the simple kind or loading it with all the accessories?

Thanks

hey,

I'm from Maryland, near Washington DC. What about you?
I don't know much about laptops, and I haven't started looking yet. I was thinking about getting a tablet PC or an ibook, not sure though. I don't know anything about the techbargain coupons. do we get them from the school?

Im from Florida.

And the laptop things. http://www.techbargains.com/ is the website.

I must say, the most important part about getting in, by far, was the interview, if you have any questions feel free to ask !

congrants.. I'd love to go the HPM program in miami! lol.. How long are the interviews.. and what kind of stuff do they ask you.. is the usual like why medicine and stuff or ??

Hey, I am going to be in the HPM at miami as well. I guess I am the coin collector you are referring to! Feel free to im me at dsg791 I would love to talk with some of you. I will be back later tonight!

on the "premier" dell website under UMiami, it lists 3 latitude Dell laptops for the "medical center only" the D610, D810 and D410. Any thoughts on what the distintions are between the 3, and which is best? Can anyone figure out the differences between them?

just wondering.. for those of you that got into miami, what other programs did you decide to reject?

I have already applied to it and am going down to miami for an interview. I was just curious as to what kind of questions they ask and what they talk about, or if it is just a generic interview. Please if you can remember, write me back with all the information you have. Thanks so much.

hey great that sounds cool. im on break now, but i should be online occasionally. where are you from? feel free to im me if you see me on. someobody imed me but they went to my cell and i couldn't answer. anyway, the miami program is great. I am really loving it down here, and it is not stressful at all. I am able to focus on the things I like and will make me a better doctor, without being to stressed about standard schoolwork and requirements. There is definitely work, but it won't be the only thing you do down here, and it is not hard, although the gpa req is rather high. Anyway, the interview was much easier than the other program I applied to (RPI/Albany Med School). Now that I am in the program I was told the interview is just to see if you are "NORMAL". They want to make sure your don't look like somebody not fit to be a doctor, but not a complete nerd either. They just don't want to accept Ozzy Osbourne. They want to know that you can carry on a conversation and that your just an honest good person who wants to be a doctor for the right reason. If you lie, or are insincere, they will see right through you. They won't ask any hard questions, but don't sound rehearsed or anything, its pretty easy. All interviews are stressful, but it really was a great experience. I had no idea how I did when I left, bc I didn't feel like I was tested or anything like that. Just relax and take it easy, thats the florida motto, as hopefully you will soon find out. The whole way of life down here is very laid back and different from what you might be used too. I was from up north, and I was used to the pressure and the whole competitive "rat race" and people are nothing like that down here! I really feel I made the right choice, and I had a great time first semester. If you have any questions, just shoot, I'll be around. This site was a lot of help for me, so I am glad to be able to help you guys. Just remember, if you are honest and sincere, the interviewer will know. If you are only applying bc you want money or hot girls or bc your parents told you to be a doc, they will know that too, even if you don't say that. Just relax! Good Luck!

Hey coincolectr, I've been looking at the Miami HPM program as well, and one of the things that I've noticed is the tuition, which didn't seem unreasonable but still quite high. Since I probably won't qualify for financial aid, I was wondering if they gave students in the HPM program any merit scholarships. Thanks!
