I know it’s kind of late and you have probably already made your decision but I would definitely pick Miami 7 year med program over Duke if you are 100% certain that you want to be a physician. My son had a similar choice and picked the med program over an ivy league university. He is very happy that he picked the med program because he doesn’t have to stress about wheather or not he will get into med school anymore.

"Why settle for Miami med when you can go to some of the best med schools in the country? "

-This is beyond funny to tell High Schooler that he can go to the best Med. Schools in the country. Do you know that tiny percentages of pre-meds will eventually end up at Med. Schools? Do you know that elite colleges have much higher % because they will not let their pre-meds with lower stats to apply to Med. School? Yes, pre-med committes are pretty powerful, they might stop you if they want. But beyond that nobody can quarantee you top Med. School, going to any Ivy will certainly not make it happen. Your hard work at any place is the only way to achieve it.
And, please, do not expect to slack in accelerated bs/md, no chance, you will work your b==t off, believe me. One reason, my D. turned down accelerated program and went to bs/md that was 4 + 4. She wanted to have normal college experience and she did.

Dude, Miamidap, you honestly blabber so much on these threads as if you’re some omnipotent advisor who has all the answers on these forums. I apologize beforehand, but I honestly believe that MANY people want to call you out on these forums, but just don’t want to waste their time doing so.
- i dont get how it is “beyond funny” to tell a high schooler that he can get into a good med school. I’m not an idiot, I got into a combined med program and I am very familiar with the medical school admissions process. It’s also “beyond funny” that you are so ignorant to the point wher you don’t think that a valuable undergraduate experience at a top school is important.
- YES, NO shi-t very few pre meds apply, that’s because people change their interests. Yes, some people just struggle, but I CAN honestly say that kids who get into combined programs out of high school are already smart and driven.
“Any ivy will certainly not make it happen”, yes, you’re right. It seems like you are constantly trying to defend your “D” (its actually spelled daughter), who chose to go to a mediocre undergrad. Yes, she did get into many “top med schools” good for her. But you are kiding yourself if you think that going to a state university is the same as an ivy league school. Of course, you’re hard work will help you achieve it, thats realyl not a brilliant observation.

Who are you telling not to slack off in a bs/md class? Nobody even suggested or implied that they were. Who are you even talking to? It seems like you just like listening to your voice or reading your oh so clever words.

if only there was a like button on CC…

Miami 1000000000000%. The reason is as follows. If you want to be a doctor why would you spend an extra year on school? Why would you not want a undergrad that guarantees you a med school. Duke is extra unnecessary pressure. Play it safe. Have fun being a doctor.

^ The advice is kind of late, but I ended up choosing Miami. It wasn’t for the reasons you explained actually. I am interested in spending another year in undergraduate, or I will do an internship for a year. I like Miami as a city, but it was a really tough decision. Duke probably would have been more enjoyable, but overall, I was happy with the decision
