Miami University or University of South Carolina?

I have a friend who is torn between two very good programs. She is choosing between Miami University of Ohio and University of South Carolina. She has gotten into the Miami University Premedical Scholars program and the University of South Carolina’s Honors College. She is very academically driven and aspires to be an accomplished surgeon in the medical community one day.

Academics play a large role in her decision, but so does the social scene of both school. She is interested in joining a sorority as well, and definitely wants to be on a campus with a fun and friendly social scene.

Some important things to note are that both schools have given her very comparable deals in terms of what she’s be paying and also that Miami University is 8 hours away and University of South Carolina is 11 hours away.

Any advice, information on both schools (pros and cons), and other useful information would be greatly appreciated! What school should she choose?

My son made the choice between Miami U and U South Carolina last year and hasn’t looked back. He is Pre-PT. His best friend is pre-med. The environment is welcoming and friendly. He felt Miami-Oxford was too preppy and rigid. Good luck to your friend.

I heard about Miami maybe being too preppy, but after visiting the school I feel as though it was pretty warm and welcoming also, and the students we met were very nice. Glad your son is finding success in his school, and thank you for the input!
