MICA acceptances EA

Daughter received MICA acceptance today. Anyone else?

I received my acceptance on the 21st through the mail.

Curious about what merit you received if you don’t mind. Daughter received an $11,000 scholarship every year for four years plus an additional $3000 a year in another scholarship. Competitive scholarships don’t come out till April, that’s so late. My daughter probably will have moved on by then. @FeiZubke

The scholarship I received was $14,500 each year and an additional 4,000 in another MICA grant. My scholarship to SAIC was the same amount. Has your daughter heard back from any other art schools? I’m trying to figure out which art schools are the most generous with their aid.

@FeiZubke she received $27,000 from Pratt and $20,000 from SVA. Still waiting to hear from SCAD, VCUArts and RIT. The cost of attendance is still high for Pratt and SVA. Pratt is actually higher even though more scholarship was given. Look at the final cost more than the amount of scholarship. SVA is actually not a terrible commute from where we live and she may do that. She loves MICA. She attended their Pre college and really fit there, but I think the money is not going to come through. Also, because they don’t release their competitive awards till April, I think she will be over it by then and pick somewhere else.

Oh I attended the precollege at MICA too! I’m still considering applying to Pratt and RISD but I’ve heard bad things about RISD’s financial aid packages so I’m trying not to get my hopes up.

@mommek3 A similar thing happened with my kid re MICA…they were already fairly emotionally committed to their fav school (which had come in with the most aid too and where they now attend) and then late April got 2 more offers from MICA making it the less expensive option (but not by much).

Which was very nice and all…but oh geez created a lot of last minute angst and stress for my kid. I really wished they offered them a bit sooner to at least give the students some time to think about it.

Oh good, another MICA thread! Anyone else have safety concerns? My kid really loves MICA and it seems like a great fit, but I can’t seem to stop worrying about Baltimore. I know MICA is very on top of security, and besides, things can happen anywhere…

I can say firsthand from my precollege experience that especially considering MICA is in the middle of the city they have great security measures and personnel @TheNicePolice . That being said it is still an urban campus so if your child hasn’t really had that experience before/ doesn’t have “street smarts” I’d keep that in mind. On the streets where the campus buildings are they have officers at every corner and I’m pretty sure from my memory of the orientation you can always call the security office if you would like an escort walking home from class at night. They have a shuttle system too that can be used for that purpose also. The only incident that I remember happening while I was on campus was a carjacking and the administration was quite transparent about that. In terms of the daily student experience I wouldn’t say MICA is any better or worse than other urban campuses like NYU, UCLA, etc. Hope this was helpful!

@ArtAngst - I know that my question is coming a little late, but did the MICA competitive scholarship offers come in late April? Or are you talking about additional awards afterwards? I’ve heard to hold out on acceptance to certain schools because they often “sweeten” the deal as the deadline approaches, although I’m not sure how accurate my source is. Thanks!

@lrose121 competitive scholarships for MICA are going out April 1 according to the letter my daughter received saying she is a finalist.

@mommek3 - Yup! My daughter got that too, but I have heard that some colleges have been known to send out additional ones even after that, as the May 1 deadline approaches. Just curious.

Doubt it. Pretty sure that’s it.

@lrose121 Neither of my kids got additional offers other than the MICA competitive one & the extra $ Parsons added when my spouse called mid-March (yay!)

An update on the competitive scholarships: I asked my admissions counselor to email me the pdfs yesterday and I won $35,000 each year in awards! Needless to say I’ll be attending MICA this fall

@FeiZubke My daughter still hasn’t received her packet from MICA yet, and she is going out of her mind. Two of her friends received theirs yesterday, and one got hers today. I am wondering if they are going out alphabetically? Have you received yours in the mail yet? Congrats on your amazing scholarship!!!

Yes mine came in the mail today. I live in state so that could also have influenced it. Good luck to your daughter! @Irose121

Was it a business envelope or a large envelope? Going to check informed delivery.

@FeiZubke Thanks so much for your feedback about safety at MICA! And congrats on your large scholarship!!
