My D has been offered substantial merit money at both MICA and CCA. Thinking illustration right now but is prepared to switch gears, in fact wanted a program with a foundation year that would allow for experimentation. Loves MICA but has reservations about Baltimore (safety). Isn’t quite as familiar with CCA but loves San Francisco. Any thoughts? Thanks!
As far as safety is concerned, MICA is fine. My following comments are not being colored by urbanity. I teach at a college art school and it’s my opinion that since CCA comes out of a craft tradition, and that is expressed via the different disciplines at least attempting to work together. This might be a plus for your child, as you said she’s open to experimentation. Whichever major she chooses at CCA, I’m confident there would be cross-disciplinary opportunities and support for her. It’s my opinion that MICA has a more focused disciplinary curriculum, for sure it’s professionally-oriented. This could be a plus for your child as she is interested in Illo, and those students tend towards professional careers. I also like MICA as it’s on Amtrak’s Northeast Corridor. Travel north and south is a breeze, access to a variety of major art cities are at most 3-4 hours away.
@textimage Thank you!!
