Umich can kiss my behind. Hook Em Horns!

lol; but...
i assume there are hundreds maybe thousands of applicants out there who are in the same situation as me...

I keep telling myself I should admire the amount of attention each application is getting despite the increased volume of apps. A Penn State representative came to my high school last week and she said that since they get so many applications, they admit students based entirely on sat and gpa. But then I remember Michigan is the only school I want to go to, and how much harder it will be next year, and I stop telling myself that for a few days.

well keep in mind, the admission processes for the top tier schools and the lower tier schools are different. Despite the low admission rates at the top schools, most other schools have acceptance rates around 70% and higher. They have to accept a large amount of students to make sure they have a high yield, and when ur accepting that many kids it makes sense to just base it off the GPA and SAT and anyone who fits the criteria gets an admit.

Schools like Michigan or UCLA or UVA know that their schools are good enough that they will get a certain yield and they have to be more careful and observe not only the gpa and sat but other factors as well which is why U Mich apps get 2 somtimes 3 looks before a decision is made

i dunno;; i juz asked my cousellor to send some updates to umich and i also sent a mail telling them about counsellors sending new updates and about my desire to goto umich and stuff~~
i juz wish i get in.

its okay. Im OOS and i got a 3.5 1st semester senior year but 4.0 w! too bad u mich doesnt weigh. ; ( so yeah..i think im pretty much done but who knows how much of a difference my microsoft internship/calls/emails will have

hold onto hope?

flong that's a good point, psu-main is on the rise though...98,000 applications last year and the gpa and sat scores are rising...still doesn't touch michigan though

FYI my counselor said that after a certain point in time the vast majority of applicants were deferred

does anybody here noe if anyone got admitted at the last day last year?

well see that implies again that many applicants were deferred because U MICH did not have time to thoroughly look at the applications and deferred simply to have more time. But i said that in another thread a while ago and I got bashed

All the letters will not be rejections to answer an earlier doubt on this thread. 'Chances are you didnt' is just the media playing with the mind as they tend to do on many an occasion. There will be a fair amount of acceptances as well .

Midget89 - I know someone - international student who got aceepted on the last few days last year but then again I know someone who got rejected a week before the closing date as well. I state the latter becasue I do not want to raise your hopes.

The admissions comittee send emails and updates WA as soon as your decision is made so you really do not have to wait for letters.

Good Luck to you all!

thx gomez^^

yeah I didnt think there was a real correlation between how late u got ur decision and whether u got accepted/rejected either. I'm curious though, how much of an impact would 1st semester grades of senior year have? I'm hoping not alot : (

I would imagine if it shows a downward trend it would negatively impact your decision. Although if your previous years were very good then it should be allright.

This is just speculation:s

boo :[. i do have a small downward trend. oh well

Somebody who posted in the michigan 2011 thread called and the admission office said it is mailing 5,000 letters Friday, and the decisions won't be posted online.

midgets my neighbor who goes to michigan from pennsylvania got in memorial day weekend last year with like a 1230 and a 95/100.

OBrien, was the person who got in Memorial day originally waitlisted? A transfer student?

Last year Michigan did go to the waitlist and admitted many people during May.

This year, who knows.

However, this week, as the Daily has said, it hopes to have its decisions for LSA & Engineering out--Admit, Waitlist Offer, or Deny, nearly everyone should get one of these three decisions. I do not know what that status of international applicants are, nor the status of units like Kinesiology, Nursing, and Art. Music admissions are dependent on auditions, so they follow a different schedule, too.

Michigan does not defer apps on the basis of "not having time" to read them. It defers applicants because it needs more information about the candidate (e.g. another term of grades) OR because it need more information about how big the appliant pool will be and what its quality is (to see if they have room to admit applicants who have the general profile of deferee).

No, it doesn't imply that. It can imply that, but it's been stated by people who work in the admissions department, and others that it's either HIGHLY unlikely that's an option, or just false.
