Both of these programs seem to be essentially the same in every way expect residential vs non-residential.

Can any informed people relate the pros and cons of these two learning communities?

Thanks

UROP involves a 1.5 hour class every other week with your peer advisor, with journal entries, and you drop off forms at the UROP office. There's a large UROP symposium at the end of the year.

MRC is much more of a community feel, as its residential. All the forms stuff is done in-house (East Quad for 07-08, then moving back to MoJo). You'll probably be much closer with your peer advisors since they'll live very close to you (maybe even your neighbor) and office hours are also in-house. The program board is responsible for activities throughout the year and the learning community setting definitely makes the university feel smaller, a definite plus for a first-year college student. There's a smaller MRC symposium at the end of the year too. I did MRC for three years and it was one of my best decisions at U-M.
