has/is anyone in here in the michigan research community? i just really found out about it and really want to do it. i was considering UROP, but i like the idea of a learning community and having a mentor. does anyone have any personal experiences with it?

the application is just apart of the housing, which first year students won't get for a few more weeks, right? is it selective? if you know anything about MRC, please let me know. thanks in advance!

i also meant to ask, does anyone know how many apply? i read it's about 100 first year students... is it based more on stats or on the essays/passion of the applicant..

i want to do UROP residential or not, should i apply to both when the time rolls around to assure i have a chance to have a chance to have some kind of research?

sorry another question and i don't see the edit button anymore?

does anyone know anything about the people in it? if they are outgoing, like to occasionally party, etc. i heard from another source all those people seemed really introverted... obviously my social life isn't my top priority but i don't want to feel trapped living with people i don't really like. again, just what i heard.

I don't have any information about the Michigan Research Community (MRC), but my D is in UROP and it has been a great experience for her this year. I highly recommend it, but it is time consuming...so be prepared for that. Apply as soon as you can.

is she involved in other organizations? i know i have to get a job on campus next year.. i don't want to be pushed to the limits (not a pretty picture)

My D doesn't have a job, but she has taken 18 credit hours both semesters and participates in other campus activities that take at least 15+ hours per week. She's also in the Residential College.

Her schedule is hectic and she doesn't have as much time to socialize as she would like, but there's nothing she's doing that she would want to give up.

I would definitely advise applying to both. The acceptances for MRC seemed a bit random to me so I don't know on what basis they evaluate applicants.
I know a few people in MRC and coincidentally most of them are introverted but that doesn't mean it will not be fun. They're all quite close knit and seem to enjoy themselves.
