I'm a freshman in college this year and I attend Western Michigan University. I plan on transferring to Michigan State next fall. I turned in my high school grades so far and I did that somewhere in October. I had a 3.5 gpa throughout my senior year. But, my cumulative gpa is only a 3.3. I still haven't heard from them yet...are they waiting for my college grades to come out for the year?

My other question is that I I kind of messed up my freshman year in college. I only got a 2.5 my first semester of my freshman college career.

So, what's my chances of getting in? Is it hard to get in?

I think you have a real uphill fight on your hands. According to their Common Data Set filing, MSU admits roughly 70% of applicants for their freshman class, but that drops to 44% for transfers. Your stats have gotten worse and it’s significantly harder to get accepted. MSU lists a minimum college GPA of 2.0 to be considered for transfer, that 2.5 freshman GPA isn’t helping you case.

You could have probably gotten in after high school (also depending on your act/sat scores), but that 2.5 severely ruined your chance. They say a 2.0 gpa is minimum, but they almost never accept anyone below a 3.0. You might just want to finish up your second semester at WMU and then apply.

I Have a question that maybe you guys can help me out with. I applied to MSU for the fall 2011 semester as a transfer student. I have a 3.2 gpa, made the deans list got a rec letter from the dean of arts and sciences, pretty good essay, and show an upward trend in my grades. however I am missing the math requirement i took a Math 2600 and it doesnt transfer to MSU. I plan on taking it in the summer though… what are my chances without the MTH class?
